Author:The Financial Rules for New College Graduates
Mike’s mission is to make finance accessible to an educated, but non-expert audience. His book:
The Financial Rules For New College Graduates: Invest Before Paying Off Debt And Other Tips Your Professors Didn’t Teach You”
(ABC-CLIO Praeger, 2018) is readable, accessible, and practical, as useful for as a personal finance guide to adults as it is an accompaniment to a personal finance college-level course.
Mike writes the syndicated weekly column “The Smart Money” for Hearst Corporation’s San Antonio Express News and Houston Chronicle newspapers where I have built an audience eager for practical, humorous, clear and sophisticated financial knowledge.
He founded the Bankers Anonymous blog in 2012 as a way to pass on both insider financial knowledge as well as personal financial information without a sales pitch.
Mike is a practiced and effective public speaker, and have been a guest on the BBC’s “News Hour,” BBC’s “World Have Your Say,” and presented at the 2019 TEDx Trinity on the dangers of financial media. He teaches personal finance to college students as well as adults.
Like all good bankers, Mike graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in 1995
He was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico in 1996, and worked as a fixed income consultant from 1996 to 1997.
He sold bonds for Goldman Sachs in the Emerging Markets and Mortgage Departments from 1997 to 2004.
In 2004, he founded Cedarcrest Capital LLC, a purchaser of distressed fixed income assets. The company now consluts with businesses, non-profits, and individuals. They also offer workshops and presentations for select audiences.
Mike Taylor lives in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and two daughters.
